Job summary

Longmont Ice Pavilion seeks an Operations Supervisor to manage daily operations, programs, and maintenance with a focus on safety and guest satisfaction.

You will supervise diverse staff, coordinate rentals and events, maintain records, and ensure quality ice and equipment readiness using Rec Trac and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field plus 1+ year of planning, implementing and supervising ice facilities and programming.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience or demonstrated skills in supervision.
  • Previous ice maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation and administration of Longmont Ice Pavilion sessions, programs, and maintenance with focus on risk management.
  • Provide guest service excellence and supervise diverse staff; liaise with management.
  • Maintain ice quality, monitor equipment, and document maintenance records.
  • Coordinate facility use for events; supervise maintenance and budget adherence.
  • Ensure safety protocols, cash handling policies, and signed records are maintained.

Job description

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of the Longmont Ice Pavilion’s public skate sessions, drop-in sessions, programs, and facility maintenance, with a focus on risk management.
  • Provides excellent guest service skills with experience directing a diverse staff, solving issues, cooperation and integration with management.
  • Maintains Ice Pavilion public relations and patron satisfaction.
  • Provides supervision of maintenance activities in the facility and assist in coordinating use of the facility.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality ice, regular edging, temperature, and depth readings. Performs or directs maintenance work accordingly.
  • Ensures ice rink equipment is monitored and communicates repair and preventative maintenance issues to the Recreation Coordinator, Pool Technician or Recreation Supervisor.
  • Responsible for maintaining and operating ice maintenance equipment to include but not limited to ice resurfacer (Zamboni) ice edger, and ice skate sharpener.
  • Reviews the ice maintenance operations of the facility, keep accurate recordings and maintenance records of mechanical equipment.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of HVAC equipment and how it relates to a quality/safe building environment.
  • Responsible for inventory and purchasing of necessary supplies and equipment for ice rink operations.
  • Assists with maintaining the ice center budget and the fiscal control of the facility.
  • Assists in supervising and coordinating the installation, maintenance, and breakdown of ice surfaces and dry floor events/activities.
  • Assists with building asset, staffing, and maintenance planning.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for Longmont Ice Pavilion.
  • Observe, follow and enforce established policies and procedures regarding staff, facility, program, and safety protocols in the daily conduct of the job.
  • Assists in the implementation of cash handling policies and procedures for the facility.
  • Manages and supervises the facility as scheduled. Scheduled as the primary supervisor during private rentals and events.
  • Responsible for keeping operating records as required for daily activities and mechanical operations.
  • Utilizes specific computer applications and have a thorough knowledge and understanding of applications including Microsoft suite - specifically word, excel, power point and outlook. Must have the ability to learn how to utilize various software packages (Rec Trac) that include: accounting, registration, facility, and league scheduling software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of individuals and groups representing different interests.
  • Represents Longmont Ice Pavilion as a liaison with the other City of Longmont departments, reporting as required.
  • Responsible for developing a year-round preventative maintenance schedule for the overall facility, refrigeration equipment, and all other facility equipment.
  • Responsible for building control and building security, as well as all equipment inventory.
  • Responsible for building and following up with maintenance and custodial duties in the facility.
  • Assist in Administrative tasks including: time sheet accuracy and completeness, creation of staff and ice schedules, and front desk coverage. Assists in hiring, training, and development of ice staff, primarily Ice Rink Managers, Skate Guards, and Front Desk Staff, and supports as necessary Ice Skate Instructors and Hockey Coaches.
  • Supervises temporary employees to include assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work.
  • Ability to work independently and develop solutions to problems with minimal supervision.
  • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
  • Any combination of experience and education equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field plus one or more years of experience in planning, implementing and supervising ice facilities and programming.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience or demonstrated skills and training in supervision.
  • Previous ice maintenance experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and Community CPR/AED.
  • Desired Certifications: Certified U.S. Ice Rink Association: Ice Technician, Rink Administrator, Ice Rink Manager, Skate sharpening/Ice
    Resurfacing experience.
