Base pay range

$150,000.00/yr - $170,000.00/yr

Paragon Consulting Services is hiring an experienced IBMi Systems Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize our IBM Power Systems (AS400) and storage environments. This hands‑on role ensures system reliability, security, and performance for both Paragon and hosted client systems. Remote‑first with occasional data center visits and weekend maintenance windows as required.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and upgrade IBM Power Systems, IBMi operating systems, and associated hardware and software.
Monitor performance and availability to maintain high service levels and system security.
Perform regular maintenance tasks including PTF application, OS upgrades, patching, backups, and disaster recovery testing.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues affecting IBM systems.
Manage partitions and virtualization through HMC and VIOS, including partition creation and lifecycle management.
Administer backup and recovery processes, work with VTL and BRMS systems, and coordinate nightly backups.
Plan and execute system migrations, capacity planning, and infrastructure upgrades.
Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, runbooks, and change records.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with application, network, security, and support teams to ensure integrated, secure operations.
Provide technical guidance and support to IT staff and end users when needed.
Weekend or after‑hours maintenance windows may be required.
Travel to data center in Maryland may be required.

Required Qualifications

Degree or equivalent: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Proven IBMi experience administering IBM Power Systems (AS400).
Strong security knowledge in system and network security best practices.
Backup and recovery experience with system monitoring and recovery tools.
Hands‑on experience with VIOS, SAN storage, and cloud integration.
HMC expertise for partition creation and management.
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
