Job summary

Staples seeks a Manager, Technical Operations to lead provisioning, administration, operation, and continuous improvement of the enterprise IBM i platform environment on IBM Power hardware, OS, storage, DR, and security. You’ll provide technical and people leadership for a team of senior IBM i engineers, ensuring reliability and security of mission-critical systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in IT, CS, IS, Eng, or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on IBM i/Power Systems experience.
• 3+ years in people leadership or platform operations management.
• Experience administering IBM Power hardware and IBM i in production environments.
• Experience with high availability, DR, backup, and capacity planning.
• Experience implementing security controls, audits, and incident management.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and automation tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead administration, maintenance, and support of IBM i environments and Power Systems infrastructure.
• Ensure high availability, performance, stability, and recoverability of production, dev, DR, and test environments.
• Oversee hardware lifecycle, OS maintenance, firmware updates, and capacity planning.
• Drive backup, replication, disaster recovery, monitoring, and health reporting processes.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for platform incidents and outages.
• Partner with cybersecurity, architecture, vendors, and business teams to implement security controls and remediation plans.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, SLAs, KPIs, and documentation.
• Contribute to roadmaps and modernization efforts while leading migrations and upgrades.
• Manage vendor relationships, support contracts, license renewals, and budget planning.
• Coach and develop a team of senior IBM i engineers.
