This position is only available to current, regular, full-time employees of Missouri State University who are represented by the IBEW.
1st Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday

General Function

The Custodian I performs custodial services including cleaning, moving furniture, and minor maintenance following established procedures to maintain university facilities.

Primary Duties

1. Perform floor and stairs maintenance using manual tools and powered equipment.
2. Maintain carpets and upholstery with appropriate cleaning equipment.
3. Clean furnishings, fixtures, and surfaces in various areas.
4. Ensure restrooms and locker rooms are sanitary and stocked.
5. Clean classroom or meeting room furniture and equipment.
6. Wash interior walls, remove graffiti, and clean glass surfaces.
7. Remove trash and recyclables, transport to designated areas.
8. Use cleaning chemicals safely and properly.
9. Unload supplies and restock as needed.
10. Prepare facilities for events, moving furniture and setting up equipment.
11. Assist in snow and ice removal for safety.
12. Respond to emergencies such as leaks, flooding, or damage.
13. Check security and safety of facilities, lock/unlock as needed.
14. Replace light bulbs and perform minor repairs as assigned.
15. Clean outdoor entryways and loading docks if applicable.
16. Maintain custodial equipment.
17. Provide campus building information and safety notices.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; significant custodial experience may substitute.
• At least one year custodial experience required.
• Ability to read and understand English instructions.
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, and perform physical activities including walking, bending, reaching, and climbing.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials; proper safety procedures required.
