Qualifications

  • IBCLC certification required or progression toward certification.
  • Complete lactation educator training program required upon hire.
  • Apply to sit for IBCLC exam within 6 months of hire.
  • Pass IBCLC exam within 1 year of hire.
  • BLS certification required.
  • One year of Women & Infant clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience in breastfeeding support or maternal-infant health preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides inpatient lactation consultations and assessments for postpartum patients.
  • Develops and delivers breastfeeding education to parents one-on-one or in groups.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and allied teams to coordinate lactation plans.
  • Documents all patient assessments and progress in the electronic medical record.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and unit-based quality initiatives.
  • Supports high-risk parent–infant dyads, including premature or medically complex infants.
