Job summary

University of Pennsylvania Information Systems & Computing (ISC) seeks an IAM Architect to lead identity and access management design and strategy across the university’s IT environment. You will collaborate with security, operations, and campus stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable IAM solutions and architecture.

The role emphasizes leadership, architectural standards, and modern authentication technologies.

Qualifications

• Experience in identity and access management, information security, and systems architecture.
• Knowledge of multifactor authentication, federation standards, PKI, SSL/TLS, and secure systems design.
• The ability to communicate complex technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to operate independently, guide others through complex problems, and balance security with usability.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction for IAM services, including authentication, authorization, MFA, PKI, SSL/TLS.
• Provide senior technical support for multifactor authentication, enrollment and recovery patterns.
• Design and review IAM solutions using SAML, OAuth, OIDC, RBAC, ABAC.
• Collaborate with Security, IAM operations, vendors, and stakeholders to assess requirements and risk.
• Establish architectural standards, patterns, and operational practices to improve IAM reliability and security.
• Evaluate emerging IAM technologies such as passwordless, WebAuthn/FIDO2, CIAM, and adaptive authentication.
• Provide escalation support, mentoring, and guidance to engineers; participate in planning incidents and maintenance.
• Other duties as assigned.
