Job description

Overview

The PACS/CVS Systems Administrator (SA) demonstrates excellent customer service performance and supports a work environment in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare, and the commitment to Keeping our Promise of Caring. The Systems Administrator will assume leadership responsibility for the management and support of all I&D or CVS systems within the department. They will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of all I&D or CVS IT systems and equipment; and work with other ancillary departments to facilitate systems integration. The SA will perform software product evaluations, analysis, and design for interdepartmental systems projects. The SA will plan, coordinate, and manage system implementations, upgrades and changes. The SA is responsible for handling all technical aspects of the I&D or CVS digital systems, implementation and maintenance of the general operations of all computer systems and responsible for the integrity of all interfaces and patient databases. The SA will lead all future implementations of IT services / equipment changes within the department in keeping with Covenants Mission, Vision and Values to meet our customers needs. The Systems Administrator will be an integral part of the I&D or CVS leadership teams. Patient contact is primarily social.

Responsibilities
  • Develops an understanding of all department systems and acts as liaison between vendors, IT and internal / external customers.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of all equipment /systems within the department.
  • Works closely with I&D or CVS staff to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM Digital Image Data into the various I&D or CVS systems, as well as network.
  • Leads analysis, development and thorough testing of all future enhancements and integrations.
  • Reviews system-specific reports, etc. to help ensure system integrity.
  • Analyzes backend logs and server records to identify potential systems issues.
  • Performs analysis for report request, enhancements, upgrades and conversions for departmental information systems.
  • Develops and oversees training programs for system usage for appropriate internal and external staff including but not limited to physicians, techs, and/or ancillary areas.
  • Runs daily / weekly quality control to maintain integrity of data.
  • Maintains systems as designed and set up, and monitors integrity of synchronization. Supports Modality Worklist Management interface (Modality Scanners).
  • Provides ongoing support to system users in troubleshooting system issues.
  • Determines needs for IT, PACS or CVS equipment in conjunction with Manager and Director.
  • Coordinates installation, including power, network and physical location. Coordinate with Managers and Facilities as needed. Troubleshoots daily issues and contacts vendors as required.
  • Monitors PACS or CVS archives to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Ensures security of patient personal health information through meeting HIPAA compliance requirements.
  • Has technical capabilities to quickly learn and support ancillary software systems used in conjunction with PACS or CVS.
  • May be required to learn and assist with configuration and/or troubleshooting along with the vendor of such software.
  • Is required to participate in a paid on-call service to the I&D/CVS Departments to support PACS/CVS issues that may arise during off hours.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the PACS, which facilitates enhanced patient care for the clinicians, is fully operational 24/7 365.
  • May require participation in a crisis resolution to reestablish proper patient care.
  • Understands HL7 interfaces to the degree he/she can help troubleshoot and coordinate the set up such interfaces with a vendor and the Covenant HL7 administrator/engineer.
  • Understands integrations of systems with the hospital EMR.
  • Works as needed with the hospital RIS Administrator on projects where new studies are created in the HIS to the point of adding such studies to the PACS and/or worklists, blocks, RVU setup/changes, etc.
  • Understands both Windows and Linux operating systems as both are incorporated within Covenant's PACS.
  • Has a basic understanding of, or is willing to learn, the basic functions of the clinical side of the diagnostic imaging system.
  • A basic understanding of all of the various modalities that use PACS to store and review their studies for patient care and long-term archiving.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • I. Knowledge
    • Working knowledge of IT systems
    • Clinical knowledge as it relates to systems /equipment
    • Working knowledge of image acquisition technologies and radiology work methods
    • Working knowledge of hospital/department-based information systems used to request status change and result radiological orders
    • Working knowledge of statistics
    • PACS: Knowledge of techniques and methods used in radiology and clinical photography, including arranging patients, adjusting and operating equipment, and processing and developing films
    • CVS: Knowledge of EKG/Echo equipment, how it works, interfaces in the network, and how the date is stored for permanent archiving
  • II. Skills / Abilities

    • Proficiency in advanced office automation systems required

  • III. Education
    • Associate’s Degree in Applied Science – Radiology with 5 years of PACS experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field – OR –
    • Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and commensurate work experience in a clinical arena
  • IV. Experience
    • 5+ years in IT with clinical system integration expertise
