Job description

Position Purpose

The i-CARE Teacher's Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Site Coordinator and Assistant Site Coordinator to oversee students in a before and after school program, ensuring compliance with Indiana Afterschool Standards.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assists and guides students during homework time to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement STEAM activities.
  • Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Assists with program behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly environment, and keep students on task.
  • Supervises non‑instructional areas such as snack time, bus duty, playground duty and corridor surveillance.
  • Constructs, copies, distributes, and uses educational materials as needed.
  • Supports the Site Coordinator/Assistant Site Coordinator with daily cleanup of the i‑CARE area to assist custodial staff.
  • Provides assistance to students with special needs and disabilities to maximize inclusion and progress toward IEP objectives.
  • Assists students with disabilities in activities of daily living to enable participation in school or learning activities.
  • Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students.
  • May assist in training other teaching assistants.
Additional Duties
  • Assist Site Coordinator & Assistant Site Coordinator as needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Terms of Employment

Less than 12 months; 3–4 hours per day (2:30 pm–5:30 pm or 2 pm–6 pm depending on site).

Starting hourly rate: $16.51, with an additional $1 per hour through referendum funds.
