Job summary

Southern Company Services is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer / Specialist to support the Volume Procurement group in Birmingham, AL. You will coordinate across design teams, suppliers, procurement, quality, and project controls to ensure technical integrity and procurement efficiency from bid through delivery.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in instrumentation, control systems, automation, or procurement-related roles, and a strong ability to read P&IDs, loop diagrams,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of instrumentation, control systems, automation, or procurement-related experience considered in lieu of degree.
• Experience in power generation or utility-scale projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and issue purchase orders for instrumentation and controls systems and related engineering services.
• Coordinate with design teams to assemble bid packages with specs, scope of work, and evaluation criteria.
• Support supplier evaluation, bid reviews, and technical recommendations for awards.
• Administer supplier contracts including scope clarification and change management.
• Track manufacturing progress and validate milestones to support progress payments.
