Job summary

Hatch invites qualified students to join its Hydrometallurgy team in Salt Lake City, UT as a Process Intern. You will support the Metals group on a global basis, gaining hands-on experience in design calculations, mass balance modeling, and process equipment data sheets.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, extractive metallurgy, or a relevant field.
• Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Assist in studies for various commodities including rare earths, critical minerals and battery metals related projects.
• Prepare design calculations and develop mass balance models in simulation software (METSIM, SysCAD, IDEA Set etc).
• Evaluate process alternatives and equipment/technology selection.
• Evaluate materials of construction.
• Provide process design requirements to designers and review their plant layout developments.
• Prepare process equipment data sheets, including technical details and duties as required.
• Ensure process specifications portray the appropriate information and design intent.
• Write process descriptions and control philosophies.
• Work with the project team to prepare capital and operating cost estimates.
• Provide technical input/direction and assign work to designers, technicians, and others.
• Liaise with clients, contractor representatives, and/or project field personnel as necessary to assist with meeting key project deliverables.

Qualifications:

You bring to the role:

• Strong academic record
• Previous co-op or summer work terms within metallurgical or chemical process plants or engineering is an asset
• Academic or work experience with process modelling, process equipment and developing process engineering deliverables is an asset
• Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
