Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an Hydromet Leach Operator Trainee for Tyrone, NM. The role requires hands-on experience in leaching operations, field construction, and equipment handling in a mining context.

You will contribute to leach field work, handle piping tasks, operate support machinery, and participate in safety and training programs to advance in the operations team.

Qualifications

• Three months experience in mining/manufacturing or related fields.
• Must complete academic and practical competencies and pass required assessments.
• LOP/internal progression requirements may apply for internal employees.

Responsibilities

• Perform leaching process duties and leach field construction.
• Assist with pipe fusions using a fusing machine.
• Maintain knowledge of plant nomenclature for sumps, pumps, leaching areas.
• Know evaporative spray heads and drip systems; assist with placement on leach fields.
• Assist with clay treatment including filter press.
• Assist with loading, delivering, and unloading pipe and materials.
• Operate mobile equipment such as skid-steer loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, and light vehicles.
• Assist with maintenance activities.
• Perform area housekeeping.
• Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Tyrone is an open-pit copper mining complex located in Grant County, New Mexico – just 10 miles south of the historic mining community of Silver City. The copper processing facilities currently consist of a solvent extraction/electrowinning operation with an annual maximum capacity of approximately 100 million pounds of copper.

What You Will Do

• Performs duties related to the leaching process and leach field construction.

• May assist with and perform pipe fusions using fusing machine

• Responsible for having knowledge of plant nomenclature to include sumps, pumps, and leaching areas

• Responsible for having knowledge of various evaporative spray heads and drip systems and may assist with and perform the proper placement of these on leach fields

• May assist with and perform clay treatment which may include using a filter press

• May assist with and perform loading, delivering, and unloading pipe and materials

• May operate mobile equipment such as skid-steer loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, and light duty vehicles

• May assist with maintenance activities

• Perform area housekeeping

• Perform other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

• Three (3) months experience in one of the following areas:

• Mining/Manufacturing

• Industrial Operations

• Commercial Construction

• Commercial Landscaping

• Commercial Agriculture

• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $20.00 - $26.50/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
