Job summary

Karen Clark & Company seeks a Hydrologist to join the Model Development Team in Boston to build advanced catastrophe reference models for inland and coastal flooding. The role focuses on developing numerical representations of flood impacts and analyzing historical and real-time events.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in hydrology or hydraulics, strong modeling and programming skills, experience with GIS tools, and the ability to communicate findings effectively in technical publications.

Qualifications

• PhD required in hydrology/hydraulics or closely related field.
• Experience with model setup, calibration, and validation.
• In-depth knowledge of probability and statistical methods.
• Experience with GIS tools, such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
• Experience with numerical modeling and programming (Python, FORTRAN, R, C#, or similar).
• Excellent presentation and communication skills.
• Experience programming using Arcpy and geospatial tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop flood hazard and impacts models.
• Research regional hydrological aspects that can lead to flooding events.
• Compile literature and datasets for model development.
• Conduct model sensitivity and validation tests.
• Provide documentation for technical publications.
• Conduct post-disaster field surveys after major events.
