Job summary

SPL in Freeport, TX seeks a hands-on Laboratory Technician to support butane and hydrocarbon testing. You will operate GC, IC, and RVP equipment, maintain data in LIMS, and ensure QA/QC standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualified candidates have 1+ years of analytical lab experience, familiarity with GC/IC/RVP, and MS Office proficiency. This full-time onsite role includes 12-hour rotating shifts, with day and night cycles.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Process Technology, Laboratory Technology, or related program is strongly preferred
• 1+ years of analytical laboratory experience in hydrocarbon or oil & gas environments preferred
• Hands-on experience with GC, IC, and RVP testing strongly preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other computer applications
• Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is a plus

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical testing on butane and hydrocarbon samples using ASTM, API, and internal methods
• Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot GC, IC, and RVP instrumentation
• Ensure accurate data entry, validation, and reporting in LIMS
• Review results and identify out-of-specification (OOS) conditions
• Support QA/QC processes, audits, and laboratory quality standards
• Follow safety protocols for handling flammable and pressurized hydrocarbons
• Maintain proper sample handling, labeling, and chain of custody procedures
• Assist with general lab operations including inventory, housekeeping, and cross-training
• Perform other duties as assigned
