Job summary

Turner Industries is seeking a Hydroblaster at our Lake Charles, LA site. You will direct abrasive blasting with compressed air or water to clean metal surfaces and achieve an even finish, under the supervision of the Foreman.

Responsibilities

• Assist with job site safety and PPE usage as required.

Hydroblaster

The Hydroblaster position involves directing blasts of abrasive-laden compressed air or water from a nozzle against metal or hard composite objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart an even finish. Non-exempt role; Reports to the Foreman; Assigned duties according to specific procedures / work is checked frequently. Location: Lake Charles, LA.

Essential Qualifications

• High school or equivalent
• Minimum two (2) years of experience required
• TWIC card required
• Basic knowledge of hydro blasting equipment and the hazards associated with
• May require NCCER certifications at some job sites
• Written pre-employment qualification test
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
• Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
• Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Functional Requirements

Moves controls to adjust pressure and concentration of grit to obtain specified finish, wears gloves and a helmet or hood to protect against breathing sand-laden air and to prevent injury to eyes and hands, may mask areas not being sandblasted, may order materials as needed, perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement

May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment.
