Job summary

Acadian Contractor, Inc. is seeking a Hydro Technician to perform hydrostatic testing, inspection, and verification of piping systems and related components.

The role involves working with pressurized piping, test equipment, valves, fittings, hoses, and documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards. The ideal candidate will safely prepare, pressurize, monitor, and depressurize systems, maintain test records, and communicate results to project staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrostatic pressure testing of piping systems, lines, vessels, and related components.
• Prepare piping systems for testing with blinds, caps, plugs, hoses, gauges, and valves.
• Verify isolation and preparation before introducing test pressure.
• Operate hydrostatic test pumps and related equipment.
• Fill, vent, pressurize, monitor, and depressurize piping systems per procedures.
• Monitor gauges and equipment for abnormal pressure changes or leaks.
• Inspect piping, welds, flanges, valves, and fittings for deficiencies during testing.
• Maintain safe distances around pressurized piping and equipment.
• Assist troubleshooting leaks, pressure loss, and equipment issues.
• Perform line flushing, draining, and removal of test water after testing.
• Ensure test equipment, hoses, gauges, pumps, and fittings are inspected and maintained.
• Verify calibration and suitability of equipment for required test pressure.
• Complete hydrostatic test records and paperwork accurately.
• Communicate test results and deficiencies to supervisors and project personnel.
• Follow project specs, procedures, safety policies, and industry standards.
• Participate in pre-job meetings for hydrotesting activities.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and proper storage of equipment.

1. PURPOSE

1.1. This document is a description for the position of Hydro Technician for Acadian Contractor, Inc. (ACI) facility.

2. DESCRIPTION

2.1. A Hydro Technician is responsible for performing hydrostatic pressure testing, inspection, and verification of piping systems and related components.

2.2. This position involves working with pressurized piping, test equipment, valves, fittings, hoses, and associated systems to ensure they meet project specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards.

2.3. The Hydro Technician must be able to safely prepare, pressurize, monitor, test, depressurize, and document piping systems while maintaining a strong focus on safety and attention to detail.

3. JOB DUTIES

3.1. Job duties and responsibilities associated with the Hydro Technician include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform hydrostatic pressure testing of piping systems, lines, vessels, and related components.
• Prepare piping systems for testing, including installing test blinds, caps, plugs, hoses, gauges, valves, and other testing equipment.
• Verify that piping systems are properly isolated and prepared prior to introducing test pressure.
• Operate hydrostatic test pumps and associated testing equipment.
• Fill, vent, pressurize, monitor, and safely depressurize piping systems in accordance with approved testing procedures.
• Monitor pressure gauges and test equipment throughout testing activities and identify abnormal pressure changes or potential leaks.
• Inspect piping, welds, flanges, valves, fittings, and connections for leaks or other deficiencies during testing.
• Maintain safe work distances and follow established procedures when working around pressurized piping and equipment.
• Assist with troubleshooting and identifying leaks, pressure loss, equipment issues, and other problems encountered during testing.
• Perform line flushing, draining, and removal of test water following completion of testing.
• Ensure test equipment, hoses, gauges, pumps, and fittings are properly inspected and maintained.
• Verify that pressure gauges and test equipment are appropriate for the required test pressure and within applicable calibration requirements.
• Complete hydrostatic test records, pressure charts, inspection documentation, and other required paperwork accurately.
• Communicate test results and identified deficiencies to supervisors, inspectors, quality personnel, and other project personnel.
• Follow project specifications, approved testing procedures, safety policies, and applicable industry standards.
• Participate in pre-job meetings related to hydrostatic testing activities.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly store testing equipment and materials.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all site-specific safety requirements.
• Stop work and notify supervision when unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or unexpected pressure conditions are identified.
• Perform other duties related to piping, pressure testing, and hydrostatic testing as assigned.
