SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE

Under frequent supervision, specializes in operating hydro testing and belling equipment. Assists in the departmental housekeeping and safety efforts and works collaboratively with other members of the department and production counterparts to ensure production workflow.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows all safety and company policies / procedures and promotes a safe culture
  • Complies with all OSHA safety requirements, work rules and regulations
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Preparing pipe for hydro testing
  • Hydro testing of pipe
  • Make belling calculations involving the addition and subtraction of fractions
  • Belling of pipe per specifications
  • Performing end preparation of pipe including cutting of bevels, miters and square cutting
  • Maintain all required paperwork associated with hydro and belling applications
  • Inspects, cleans and performs basic preventative maintenance on machines and equipment
  • Maintain housekeeping within all production, storage and waste areas
  • Follows all work instructions, procedures, and job safely analysis (JSA’s)
  • Reading of drawings
  • Properly identify (mark) pipe with the use of spray paint or stamps
  • Identify and report any unsafe working conditions or equipment
  • Effectively communicate issues to management
  • Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and performance of the essential functions
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely operate machinery certified to use – overhead crane, forklift
  • Propose standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job safety analysis(JSAs)
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Must have the ability to operate the following equipment: oxygen acetylene & natural gas cutting torch, power tools, air grinders
  • Must be able to use precision measuring equipment including but not limited to measuring tape and 100 th diameter tape
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence
  • Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, multitask and work independently with attention to detail
  • Ability to work against and meet deadlines

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preference given to individuals who have previous Hydro / Belling experience
  • 1 year pipe finish experience preferred

Physical Activity

Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and / or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and / or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Over 2/3 of the time:

  • Close vision (20 inches or less)
  • Peripheral Vision: (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
  • Depth Perception: (three-dimensional vision, ability, to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Adjust visual focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.)

Up to 2/3 of the time:

  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)

Less than 1/3 of the time:

  • Distance vision (20 feet or more)
Weather conditions

Over 2/3 of the time:

  • Inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but necessarily from temperature changes
  • Both environmental conditions: activities occur inside and outside.
  • Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Atmospheric conditions: Once or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, orders, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

Up to 2/3 of the time:

  • Outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather.
  • Extreme cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  • Extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  • Oils: There is air and / or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
  • Required to wear a respirator.

  • The worker is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas could cause claustrophobia.
