CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Hydraulic Modeler – Water and Sewer to join our Water Team in Blacksburg, VA or Richmond, VA.

You will develop, calibrate, and analyze hydraulic and hydrologic models for water and wastewater systems, supporting design decisions and long‑term infrastructure planning. The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree with 3+ years of related experience and proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, and InfoWorks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related engineering experience required.
  • EIT certification or PE license preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in hydraulics with practical application.
  • Hydraulic modeling experience required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, InfoWorks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative mindset.
  • Participation in engineering societies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, calibrate, and analyze hydraulic and hydrologic models for water and wastewater infrastructure systems.
  • Independently complete engineering design, technical analysis, and preparation of specifications and reports for water projects.
  • Develop computation methods, technical reports, and specifications under guidance of senior staff.
  • Identify and resolve technical discrepancies, applying best practices for sustainability and public health.
  • Monitor project progress and performance, resolving issues to minimize delays.
  • Take responsibility for large portions of projects with oversight from senior staff, including field assignments.

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Hydraulic Modeler – Water and Sewer to join our Water Team in Blacksburg, VA or Richmond, VA. In this role, you will support hydraulic and hydrologic modeling efforts for water distribution systems, wastewater and sewer networks, and stormwater infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with engineers, planners, and project managers to inform design decisions, system improvements, and long‑term infrastructure planning for communities.

What You'll Do
  • Develop, calibrate, and analyze hydraulic and hydrologic models for water and wastewater infrastructure systems
  • Independently complete engineering design, technical analysis, and preparation of specifications and reports for water projects
  • Develop computation methods, technical reports, and specifications under the guidance of senior staff or technical leadership
  • Identify and resolve technical discrepancies, applying standard procedures and best practices for environmental sustainability and public health
  • Monitor project progress and performance, acting quickly to resolve operational issues and minimize delays in critical infrastructure
  • Take responsibility for large portions of projects with oversight from senior staff or management, including field assignments and rehabilitation efforts
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Minimum of 3 years of related engineering experience required
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Strong working and theoretical knowledge in the respective engineering discipline with a proven ability to apply engineering knowledge in practical settings
  • Hydraulic modeling experience required
  • Experience with software such as AutoCAD, GIS, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, and InfoWorks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Participation in professional engineering societies/organizations preferred

Salary Range

$85,000 – $99,500

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
