Job summary

Aon in Boston is seeking a Wildfire Scientist to join a hybrid team, working on wildfire spread modeling at scale. You will operate and enhance the wildfire spread workflows, run large catalogs of simulated events, and optimize performance on HPC/cloud resources.

Required is an MS or PhD in wildfire science or closely related field, plus direct experience with wildfire spread modeling and strong programming in R and/or Python, and GIS/data handling skills.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in wildfire science or closely related field (required).
• Direct experience with wildfire spread modeling (operational or research).
• Strong programming skills in R and/or Python (required).
• Experience working with geospatial data and tools (GDAL, ArcGIS, QGIS, sf/terra in R).
• Experience with numerical/environmental models in HPC or cloud (preferred).
• Excellent technical writing and presentation skills (required).

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and enhance wildfire spread modeling workflows at scale.
• Represent spread in the WUI and include ember generation and structure-to-structure spread.
• Develop and maintain modeling and data-processing pipelines in R and/or Python.
• Validate models against historical perimeters and growth patterns.
• Collaborate with an international, interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers.
• Prepare technical documentation and presentations for internal and external audiences.
