Aon plc in Boston is seeking a Wildfire Scientist to operate and extend wildfire spread modeling workflows, including large-scale simulations and WUI transitions. You will develop modeling pipelines in R/Python, run HPC/cloud workloads, and validate models against historical events, collaborating with an international team of experts.

The role requires an MS/PhD in wildfire science or related field, strong programming skills in R/Python, and extensive experience with geospatial data and fire

Formación

• Requires MS/PhD in wildfire science or closely related field.
• Direct experience with wildfire spread modeling using standard tools or custom models.
• Strong understanding of WUI fire behavior and embers/spotting.
• Proficient in R and/or Python for modeling and data processing.
• Experience handling geospatial data and GIS tools is required.
• Experience with HPC or cloud environments for modeling at scale.
• Solid analytical and statistical skills with large time-series data.
• Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
• Experience with catastrophe or risk modeling is preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Operate, maintain, and enhance wildfire spread modeling workflows.
• Run large catalogs of simulated events for model development and calibration.
• Improve how models represent spread in the WUI and embers/structure interactions.
• Develop, test, and maintain modeling pipelines in R/Python on HPC/cloud resources.
• Evaluate traditional fire behavior models and compare to historical perimeters.
• Validate models by comparing with observed data and document findings.
• Collaborate with international teams of researchers and clients.
• Prepare technical documentation and presentations for internal and external audiences.
