Job summary

Alation, Inc. is seeking a UX Engineer I to join the Applied AI squad. You\'ll contribute frontend code across the product and bring design sensibility to ensure consistency, hierarchy, and intuitive interactions. You\'ll collaborate with PMs and engineers on copilot features, data viz, and generative workflows.

The role emphasizes building well-constructed UI in a hybrid Redwood City environment, with local candidates only and a contract-to-hire path at about $40/hour.

Qualifications

• Recent degree in CS, HCI, interaction design, product design, or related field.
• Frontend code experience in a real codebase with React, TypeScript, HTML/CSS.
• Portfolio showing ownership of interaction design and implementation.
• Strong design eye and ability to fix inconsistencies in UI.
• AI-native mindset with ability to guide output and maintain judgment.
• Fast, curious, and low-ego; eager to ship and learn.

Responsibilities

• Contribute frontend code in production codebase and follow review processes.
• Apply design judgment: color auditing, hierarchy, component reuse, progress disclosure.
• Collaborate with PMs and engineering on copilot interactions and dashboards.
• Iterate designs based on team and user feedback.
