Job summary

Actalent in Columbus, OH seeks a Transportation Engineer to design roadway, trail, and multimodal projects. You will use AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer to deliver plan sets meeting ODOT and local standards.

With 1–5 years of transportation design experience, you will prepare plans, perform calculations, and collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate deliverables for municipal and state clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 1–5 years of transportation engineering and design experience (ODOT/municipal).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
• Understanding of roadway design principles and plan production.
• Familiarity with ODOT standards and plan preparation requirements.
• Strong communication and organizational skills; team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed design plans and construction documents for roadway, trail, streetscape, and transportation projects.
• Assist with horizontal/vertical alignments, profiles, corridors, and cross sections.
• Develop plan sheets: typical sections, plan/profile sheets, maintenance of traffic plans, signage and pavement markings, and traffic control details.
• Perform engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimating to support design.
• Support preparation of ODOT/municipal plan sets from preliminary design to construction documents.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, survey staff, and other disciplines for cohesive deliverables.
• Review plans for compliance with ODOT/local standards and best practices.
• Participate in field reviews, site visits, and coordination meetings; address issues.
• Assist in responding to client comments and updating documents.
