Job summary

The State of Illinois seeks a Traffic Plans & Contracts Technician to design and prepare contract plans for traffic control and highway lighting, and to evaluate safety issues across District 2. The role also reviews external plans and identifies candidate projects for safety programs.

Candidates should possess relevant education or multiple years of engineering experience. Hybrid in-office schedule is available; the position requires a valid driver's license and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Two years of college in civil engineering technology or related field with engineering experience.
• Five years of engineering experience if no two-year degree is completed.
• Working knowledge of CAD and ArcGIS is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares contract plans for traffic signals, lighting, signing projects and safety hazard findings.
• Reviews plans from outside agencies for compliance with policies.
• Assists in preparing the District Safety Improvement Program.
• Analyzes accident patterns and advises corrective measures.
• Researches data to respond to inquiries about traffic engineering.
• Provides information to district personnel and outside agencies about traffic engineering.
• Performs and analyzes special projects as assigned.
