Job summary

CapTech is seeking a mid-level Test Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering practice in Reston, VA. You will design, build, and maintain automated test suites for web, mobile, and API-driven systems as part of embedded delivery teams, adapting to project changes and providing value within engagement timelines.

The role emphasizes pragmatic automation strategies, collaboration with developers and stakeholders, and contributing to overall quality across engagements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–6 years in software quality engineering with 2+ years in test automation.
• Hands-on with UI automation tools (Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress).
• Experience API testing including REST and schema validation.
• CI/CD integration and Git version control.
• Understanding of Agile SDLC and defect workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated functional, regression, and integration test suites for web, mobile, and API layers.
• Build and extend reusable test frameworks using page object, data-driven, and behavior-driven patterns.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines so each build shows meaningful quality signals.
• Collaborate with product owners and business analysts to translate acceptance criteria into test scenarios.
• Triage failing tests, identify root causes, and distinguish defects from test instability or environment issues.
• Contribute to performance, accessibility, and security testing efforts with specialist teams.
• Define and report quality metrics such as coverage and pipeline stability to technical teams and leadership.
• Mentor junior engineers and client team members on automation practices and test design.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, estimation, and sprint planning, advocating for testability.
