Job summary

IonQ is seeking a Senior Systems and Network Engineer to support the classical infrastructure for quantum hardware builds at College Park, MD, with a few remote days. You will provision servers, manage lab and datacenter networking, and integrate bespoke hardware such as cameras and laser controls.

Responsibilities include provisioning, infrastructure-as-code, network design, IPMI management, and creating runbooks to capture knowledge.

Qualifications

• 6+ years hands-on systems, network, or infrastructure engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting switches, firewalls, routers, and on-prem servers.
• Experience configuring VLANs and managed-switch environments with network troubleshooting.
• Experience building provisioning workflows using infrastructure-as-code or automation tooling.

Responsibilities

• Provision Linux servers and system heads for quantum hardware builds, including PXE boot, OS installation, and automated configuration.
• Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code for server and network provisioning to ensure reproducible systems.
• Design, configure, and troubleshoot networking for lab and datacenter environments; VLANs, switches, firewalls, cabling.
• Integrate non-standard hardware into the compute environment, like cameras and laser control systems.
• Use IPMI/BMC and out-of-band tools to manage servers without on-site intervention.
• Write runbooks and documentation so provisioning knowledge is stored centrally.
• Partner with software, DevOps, and hardware teams to understand new system requirements.
• Define and document handoff criteria for when a system is ready to pass to experimental teams.
