Job summary

Vanderbilt University in Nashville seeks a Systems Engineer to design and operate a hybrid compute environment spanning AWS and on‑prem GPU/AI systems. You will harden security, manage databases, and enable researchers with robust tooling in a high‑impact national security research context.

You will implement IaC, automate deployments, and ensure data integrity and compliance while collaborating with researchers across Vanderbilt’s program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on Linux administration, cloud and on‑prem infrastructure.
  • Experience with AWS, security hardening, and IaC tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Design, architect, and operate hybrid AWS/on‑prem infrastructure for lab workloads.
  • Administer Linux servers end to end and manage IaC for reproducible environments.
  • Stand up and secure databases (PostgreSQL/NoSQL); maintain ETL pipelines.
  • Implement patching, vulnerability management, and access controls.
  • Serve researchers with AI tooling support and maintain security compliance.
  • Configure network and security monitoring to detect and investigate threats.
