We are seeking a Surety Claims Specialist (Adjuster) to join our Bond Claims department at our Schaumburg, IL headquarters. This full-time exempt role offers hybrid in-office and work-from-home options after training. Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the importation industry or related fields such as contracts, finance, or billing support.
• Preference for direct experience with tariffs, international shipping, and/or working with Customs and Border Protection.
• Must obtain a Claims Adjuster license within 180 days of employment (Avalon will assist).

Responsibilities

• Independently investigate, evaluate, and adjudicate surety bond claims within established guidelines.
• Communicate with claimants, principals, and CBP; acknowledge, record, and issue payments professionally and timely.
• Analyze claims for compliance, defects, and enforceability; determine validity and disposition.
• Research applicable statutes, regulations, and agency guidance to identify defenses and responses.
• Draft denials and filings and manage claims within aggressive timelines.
