Job summary

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Statistician III to join the Statistics and Data Science department in a hybrid role based in Chicago (Loop) with some in-office requirements. You will work across health, society, economics, and global research to apply statistical methods, survey design, and ML/AI to generate insights.

Responsibilities include leading survey statistics tasks, developing robust data pipelines, creating dashboards with Python/R, and mentoring early-career staff

Qualifications

• Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, CS, or related field required; Ph.D. preferred.
• 4 years of progressively responsible experience in statistics, analytics, or survey research (or Ph.D.).
• Experience leading data visualization design and privacy methods for public data releases.
• Strong foundation in probability, estimation, inference, and study design.

Responsibilities

• Provide statistical expertise across projects including study design and advanced methods.
• Lead survey statistics tasks: sample design, weighting, nonresponse analyses, variance estimation.
• Develop robust data pipelines and ML/AI applications for scalable analyses.
• Build data products using Python and R; design interactive dashboards and visualizations.
• Ensure data privacy, disclosure limitation, and reproducible workflows with version control.
• Present results to clients and mentor junior staff; contribute to proposals and business development.
• Write and run SAS, R, and Python programs for data extraction and analysis.
