Job summary

Mariposa Women and Family Center is hiring a Staff Accountant to support the Finance team with accounts payable/receivable, journal entries, and monthly financial statements. The role reports to the Director of Finance and offers a hybrid work arrangement in Orange, CA.

The ideal candidate holds an associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, at least 2 years of accounting experience, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks Online.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
• Minimum 2 years of accounting or full charge bookkeeping experience in a nonprofit or for-profit organization, using GAAP required
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks Online required, including the ability to create and interpret spreadsheets; payroll processing knowledge preferred
• Highly motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills and knowledge of reporting and record retention requirements
• Ability to maintain confidential information and meet deadlines in a team setting
• Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable, including verifying invoices, coding expenses to the correct programs, obtaining approvals, and preparing checks for payment
• Process accounts receivable, including preparing invoices, posting payments, and following up on outstanding balances
• Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger
• Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts monthly
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and budget comparison reports
• Prepare monthly/quarterly invoices for grants
• May assist with payroll processing and maintaining payroll records
• Assist with audits and documentation for annual external audit
• Maintain organized, confidential financial files and records
