We are accountable for improving the developer experience, performance, and resiliency of our web applications. Our primary technologies include React, Node, TypeScript, and GraphQL. We're looking for someone who values collaboration and learning with an interest in building web tooling for engineers across multiple product feature teams.

You will report to our Engineering Manager Web Frameworks.

  • Support on-call, incident response, and troubleshooting efforts for platform-level escalations.
  • Partner with teams by participating in technical discussions, writing technical documentation, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of full-stack web development experience with the modern JavaScript and TypeScript ecosystem, including application build tools, monorepo tooling and practices, and frontend frameworks (we use React, Vite, and TanStack Start).
  • Experience building centralized systems for internal engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with automation for code quality, release management, and developer workflow improvements.
  • Experience designing, implementing, testing and documenting projects.
  • Experience with GenAI tooling such as skills creation or agentic workflows.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (we use GitHub actions).
  • Experience leading complex initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using client-side GraphQL tooling and applying GraphQL best practices, including data fetching, caching, error handling, and performance optimization.
  • Experience working on a platform team, building and supporting shared tools, frameworks, or services used by multiple product teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and adopt evolving web standards and industry practices across frontend tooling, JavaScript, TypeScript, and CSS.

This is a hybrid remote/in-office role.
