Job summary

BJ’s Wholesale Club, headquartered in Marlborough, MA, seeks a Senior Legal Counsel - Real Estate to lead leasing and transaction matters for its retail locations, distribution centers, gas stations, and other company sites.

You will negotiate leases, purchase and sale agreements, development contracts, and related documents, while advising on title, environmental risk, and landlord/tenant issues. Collaboration with outside counsel and support for zoning and incentives is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and law degree from a top college or university.
• 8-10 years’ experience at a top law firm and/or in-house environment.
• Lead real estate leasing and transaction counsel for retail locations, distribution centers, gas stations, and other company locations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead real estate leasing and transaction counsel for retail locations and other company sites.
• Negotiate and draft leases, purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, REAs, and other commercial real estate documents.
• Provide legal guidance on lease provisions, operational issues, violations, signage, construction issues, and landlord/tenant disputes.
• Analyze title and surveys and identify environmental risk and liability.
• Work with outside counsel as necessary.
• Assist in management of all real estate related litigation.
• Assist in updating real estate documents and forms.
• Assist local land use counsel with zoning, permitting, incentives and similar matters.
