Job summary

Actalent in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Project Manager III to lead complex engineering and utility projects, focusing on transmission, substation, and power delivery initiatives. You will oversee multiple projects, manage budgets and timelines, and mentor junior staff in a hybrid work environment.

The role requires PMP certification or progress toward it, a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, and substantial experience with multi-discipline teams and high-voltage design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; 4+ years in project management or related responsibilities defining and managing project scopes, timelines, budgets, and delivery.
• Eight (8) years of related project management experience.
• PMP certification required, or ability to obtain PMP certification within 12 months of hire with approvals.
• Proven experience managing multiple medium to large-scale projects simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of project management processes, principles, and methodologies.
• Experience with transmission projects and power delivery initiatives.
• Experience in substation engineering, substation design, and high-voltage electrical design.
• Experience in utility design and engineering projects within the power distribution or electrical utility sector.
• Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate multi-discipline teams.
• Strong critical thinking and creativity skills; ability to exercise sound judgment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong negotiation and people management skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities.
• Proficiency with schedule management, budget control, and change order management.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and electrical engineering design.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple medium to large-scale engineering and utility projects, including transmission, substation, and power delivery initiatives.
• Define and manage project scopes, timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with goals and stakeholder expectations.
• Apply established project management processes and methodologies to drive consistent outcomes.
• Coordinate and direct multi-discipline teams to achieve objectives.
• Oversee substation and transmission line design activities, including electrical design and high-voltage components.
• Manage project documentation, including schedules, status reports, and change orders.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues with timely analyses.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs and motivate team behaviors.
• Staff and support development of project management and technical skills.
• Ensure effective communication across stakeholders via updates, presentations, and reports.
• Lead negotiations and manage expectations with partners and vendors.
• Adapt project plans in response to changing environments while maintaining progress.
• Promote adherence to technical standards and engineering best practices.
• Utilize AutoCAD and other design software to support planning and coordination.
• Monitor performance and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
