Job summary

University of Louisville is seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer V (Cybersecurity Engineer) to design, implement, and maintain enterprise cybersecurity systems. This senior role will protect university information assets across networks, cloud environments, and research systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA/ePHI, FERPA, PCI-DSS, CMMC, and NIST 800-171.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus eight years of relevant experience or equivalent
• Master’s degree preferred for advanced roles
• Experience with enterprise cybersecurity in higher education or research environments is a plus

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and maintain enterprise security measures across university infrastructure
• Configure and operate security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, EDR, DLP)
• Monitor and mitigate security risks; lead incident response activities
• Manage identity and access services (directory, SSO, MFA, Privileged Access)
• Develop security automation and orchestration to improve detection and response
• Design secure architectures including zero trust and cloud security posture
• Support regulatory compliance (HIPAA/ePHI, FERPA, PCI-DSS, CMMC, NIST 800-171)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy secure services
• Create and maintain security runbooks, diagrams, SOPs; mentor teammates
