Job summary

Our client, a reputable US-based manufacturer in Des Plaines, IL, is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join the finance team. This hybrid role focuses on inventory optimization, accurate cost reporting, and partnering with Operations and Supply Chain to drive cost reduction and margin improvement.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years cost accounting experience in manufacturing, a Bachelor’s degree, and strong Excel skills. ERP experience with Dynamics 365 is a plus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.

Responsibilities

• Analyze inventory trends and costs by location.
• Partner with Operations/Supply Chain to reduce carrying costs.
• Maintain inventory KPIs and dashboards.
• Support standard cost reviews, BOM analysis, and cycle counts.
• Prepare journal entries for inventory, COGS, and accruals.
• Reconcile inventory subledger to GL and resolve discrepancies.
• Perform variance analysis with commentary for leadership.
• Support monthly reporting packages and working capital insights.
• Assist with budgeting/forecasting for inventory and production costs.
• Identify cost reduction and margin improvement opportunities.
