Job summary

Loudoun County Public Schools in Centreville, VA is hiring a Librarian to provide students and teachers with access to materials in multiple formats and to foster competence in information use. The Librarian will operate the Media Center, supervise staff, and deliver information literacy instruction in collaboration with teachers.

The position is itinerant 0.8 FTE at Cardinal Ridge Elementary and 0.2 FTE with Virtual Distance Elementary; exempt status; salary scale A.

Qualifications

• Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Teaching license with an endorsement in Library Science.

Responsibilities

• Operates and supervises the Media Center including planning and evaluating the total program; follows State and local policies pertaining to regulations; establishes policies and routines in the Media Center that facilitate access to information.
• Provides formal and informal instruction in information skills and the use of information technologies; promotes information literacy and reading.
• Offers teachers assistance in using information resources and integrating information skills into the classroom curriculum; promotes literacy and enjoyment of reading and viewing.
• Supervises Library Assistants, adult volunteers, and student aides; advises administrative staff on library media program matters.
• Stays up-to-date in the field with courses, staff development, conferences, and professional reading.
• Promotes and publicizes library services and resources to the school community.
• Performs related work as required
