Qualifications

• Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Teaching license with a specific endorsement in Library Science.

Responsibilities

• Operates and supervises the Media Center including planning and evaluating the total program; follows state and local policies pertaining to standards and policies; establishes policies and routines to facilitate access to information; maintains records and prepares reports including budget, accounting, and inventory; provides accurate retrieval and circulation systems.
• Provides formal and informal instruction in information skills, production of materials, and use of information technologies; promotes information access, use, and communication; develops a collection of resources to support curriculum and meet needs of students and staff; assists the Principal to ensure instructional materials are used; participates in curriculum planning and program development.
• Offers teachers assistance in using information resources and instructional materials; promotes literacy and the enjoyment of reading, viewing, and listening.
• Supervises Library Assistants, volunteers, and aides; advises administrative staff on the library media program
• Keeps up-to-date in the field through courses, staff development, conferences, and professional reading
• Promotes and demonstrates the importance of the library media program and publicizes services and resources
• Performs related work as required
