Job summary

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) seeks a journey-level Gardener to maintain Seattle landscapes, working either independently at remote sites or with the Grounds Maintenance Team within the Drainage and Wastewater Line of Business.

Responsibilities include planting, pruning, lawn care, irrigation care, and equipment operation. Licenses and a 4/10 in-person schedule are required; a safety-conscious team environment awaits.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years' landscape construction or maintenance experience.
• Washington pesticide operator's license required within 1 year of hire.
• Valid Washington State Driver License required.
• In-person 4/10 schedule at various locations.

Responsibilities

• Transplant and prune trees and shrubs; prepare, plant, and maintain planting beds.
• Seed and maintain lawn areas, including mowing, aerating, fertilizing, and sod installation.
• Plant beds with annuals, biennials, and perennials; design and install landscapes.
• Apply pesticides following safety regulations; operate spraying equipment and maintain records.
• Maintain and repair irrigation systems.
• Operate landscape power equipment (weed trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, saws, mowers).
• Provide guidance to temporary gardeners; work with teams on local sites.
