Job summary

California State University, Long Beach is seeking a Risk Manager to lead programs identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk across university activities. The role guides liability, insurance, contracts, and holds, while supervising two Risk Professional II staff.

This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Financial Management and offers hybrid work flexibility based on needs, with an anticipated salary of $130,000–$140,000.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• At least five years of progressively responsible risk management experience, including claims management.
• Ability to objectively assess complex facts with stakeholders to develop risk strategies.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills explaining insurance and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead risk identification, assessment and mitigation across campus operations.
• Oversee tort liability and commercial insurance programs and related claims guidance.
• Coordinate legal holds and preserve records in coordination with IT and legal counsel.
• Provide leadership to two Risk Professional II employees and liaise with CSU system partners.
