Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory's Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) invites applications for a Software Engineer focused on AI for science, enabling scalable inference on HPC systems and accelerators. You will join the Data Services and Workflows group to integrate AI inference within scientific workflows and expose programmatic interfaces such as the OpenAI API.

The role spans collaboration with science teams and national labs, with a Hybrid Remote Work arrangement and onsite days.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with AI model use, deployment, and memory- and compute-requirements.
• Familiarity with AI hosting frameworks such as vLLM or SGLang.
• Familiarity with REST API development in Python using frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Comprehensive experience programming in Python and C/C++.
• Ability to create, maintain, and support high-quality software.
• Work with and contribute to domain‑specific software and models.
• Experience with version control software such as Git.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Effective written and oral communications skills.
• Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork.
