Job summary

GFT is seeking a Rail Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Kansas City, MO or Omaha, NE, with a hybrid work model that requires regular office attendance. You will perform structural design, rehabilitation, and inspections for rail bridges, and contribute to load ratings, construction documents, and estimates across Class I and transit projects.

The role demands strong communication, teamwork, and familiarity with AREMA standards, bridge design software, and field work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering (ABET-accredited).
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in structural design for Class I and transit bridges.
• EIT license to be considered (PE/SE preferred).
• Familiarity with AREMA Manual for Railroad Engineering.
• Familiarity with Class I railroad bridge standards.
• Experience with structural design drawings, specs, and cost estimates.
• Willingness to travel within the continental United States.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural bridge analysis and design per AREMA and owner standards.
• Conduct bridge inspections for railway structures.
• Ensure design reports, load ratings, and plans meet quality and budget standards.
• Review calculations and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with CADD development and production of drawings.
• Document and organize design calculations per Quality Management Plan.
• Interpret contract changes and advise management accordingly.
• Maintain professional knowledge through workshops and publications.
