Job summary

The Department of Records and Information Services (DORIS) in New York City seeks a Full Stack Developer to support the development, enhancement, modernization, and maintenance of web applications for the OpenRecords FOIL system.

The selected consultant will develop responsive front-ends and Python-based back-ends using Flask and Django, design and manage PostgreSQL/MySQL databases, and build RESTful APIs. Hybrid work in NYC with Docker, CI/CD, and DevOps practices across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in full stack web development.
• Experience building responsive and accessible web applications.
• Experience with Python development using Flask and/or Django.
• Experience designing and managing PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience with Docker containerization and cloud-based deployments.
• Experience using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Solr, Lucene, or similar search technologies.
• Experience writing shell scripts and working in Linux/UNIX environments.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployments.
• Experience with legacy system modernization and application migration.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain full-stack web applications for the OpenRecords FOIL system.
• Develop back-end applications and services using Python with Flask and/or Django.
• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs for application functionality and system integrations.
• Design and manage PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, including schemas and queries.
• Develop and implement full-text search functionality using Elasticsearch or similar technologies.
• Containerize applications using Docker for development, testing, and production.
• Support cloud-based deployments and infrastructure integration.
• Develop shell scripts and work in Linux/UNIX environments.
• Participate in CI/CD and DevOps practices; use Git/GitHub for version control.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams and translate technical concepts for stakeholders.
