Job summary

The Oregon Department of Transportation in Salem seeks a Professional Land Surveyor 1 – Project Surveyor to support right-of-way mapping and legal descriptions for conveyance documents. You will coordinate with agency staff to determine limits of work and the type and detail of maps and exhibits, and advise on property rights.

The role requires a valid PLS license, ability to use CAD software, and strong verbal and written communication.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience delivering opinions, training and presentations on property rights issues.
• Experience using personal computers and computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software.
• Experience writing and reviewing right of way centerline property descriptions and sketch maps.
• Experience determining property rights through research, evaluation and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with agency staff to determine limits of work and detail of maps/exhibits.
• Make determinations regarding width/alignment of existing right of way.
• Advise other offices and agencies on location and extent of property rights.
• Train consultants and region staff on division standards for right of way mapping and legal descriptions.
• Prepare and oversee right of way engineering work products.
