Job summary

HMC Architects in Ontario, CA is seeking a Project Architect to lead technical development, coordination, and documentation on medium- to large-scale projects. This role requires strong leadership, code knowledge, and collaboration with teams, consultants, and regulatory agencies.

The position offers a hybrid schedule with in-office Tue–Thu and remote Mon/Fri, benefits, and opportunities for growth through our employee-owned structure.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture or related field (Interior Design, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Revit drafting).
• Active California Architectural License required for Project Architect.
• Minimum 7 years of experience with architectural phases.
• Strong experience in construction docs, coordination, and QC.
• Proven ability to lead teams and provide feedback.
• Knowledge of building codes and plan check processes.
• Ability to manage budgets and contractual liabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, time-management and decision-making abilities.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• Commitment to firm procedures and client protocols.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development and coordination from design development to construction documents.
• Resolve technical, code, and agency approval issues across all project phases.
• Supervise and manage project teams (up to four staff) including feedback.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, contractors, and internal teams.
• Review documents for quality, accuracy, coordination, and code compliance.
• Support planning including schedules, budgets, staffing, and fees.
• Assist with work plans, hours estimation, and budget adherence.
• Lead government agency coordination, plan check, and approvals.
• Lead or participate in OAC meetings and provide mentoring.
• Assist in proposals, interviews, and marketing efforts.
• Ensure projects meet contractual obligations and client expectations.
