Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. in Somerset, NJ, is seeking a Production Planner / Scheduler to manage day-to-day manufacturing execution for existing products.

You will handle short-term schedules and work orders, respond to shop-floor changes, and ensure builds align with delivery commitments. The role requires collaboration with Manufacturing Supervisors, Production Managers, Supply Chain, Stores, Quality, and Engineering to identify constraints, adjust priorities, and recover at-risk timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years in manufacturing planning, scheduling, or production control (or master’s with no related experience).
• Experience with SAP production planning, work orders, or MRP systems.
• Experience in low-volume, high-mix electromechanical equipment manufacturing.
• Exposure to ECN implementation, MRB dispositions, lean manufacturing, WIP control, or production-flow improvements.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily work orders in SAP: release, prioritization, sequencing, status, closure.
• Build and adjust short-term production schedules based on material, labor, capacity, and shop-floor conditions.
• Monitor open, in-process, constrained, and late work orders; identify gaps and recover actions.
• Reprioritize and reschedule to address shortages, rework, and capacity disruptions.
• Act on MRP exception messages as execution signals for assigned work orders.
• Maintain SAP data: work order status, priorities, lead times, quantities, completion info.
• Coordinate with Supervisors and Production Managers to confirm build priorities and communicate schedule direction.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain and Stores to resolve material constraints.
• Support ECN and MRB dispositions within active work orders.
• Participate in daily production, shortage, and schedule-recovery reviews; provide updates on risks and commitments.
• Use planning and production-control practices to support schedule adherence, WIP control, throughput, and data accuracy.
• Identify recurring issues and recommend practical improvements to scheduling and production flow.
