Penguin Random House Corporate Bookmaking is seeking a Production Editor to support the Crown Publishing Group. The role focuses on overseeing a diverse list of titles, coordinating with editorial, design, and production teams to move manuscripts to final bound books.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in production editorial, strong copyediting and proofreading skills, and proficiency with Word and Adobe Acrobat. This hybrid New York role offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of publishing experience in a production editorial capacity.
• Experience with complex nonfiction, cookbooks or illustrated projects.
• Ability to set and meet deadlines.
• Strong copyediting and proofreading skills.
• Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsabilités

• Hire and assess freelance editors, proofreaders, cold readers, and indexers.
• Prepare and style initial text transmittals using a Word-based platform.
• Coordinate with editorial, production, and design teams to complete titles.
• Manage schedules and update project progress in FileMaker Pro.
• Review and collate author and proofreader edits in Adobe Acrobat.
• Keep books on schedule and error-free under tight deadlines.
• Copyedit and proofreading supplementary material (front matter, jacket copy, etc.).
• Review and approve jacket and cover routings.
• Oversee freelancers performing quality assurance on ebooks.
• Perform administrative duties including invoice processing, system updates, and status reports.
