Job summary

The University of Chicago seeks a part-time Processing Archivist and Cataloger to support the Black Visual Arts in Motion project, focusing on the Ramon Williams Collection and Chicago's Black Renaissance. Based at Logan Center for the Arts with up to 25% remote work, the role processes, digitizes, describes audiovisual materials, and builds metadata conforming to professional standards.

This 20-hour weekly position runs 9/01/2026 through 8/31/2028 with a pay rate of $25/hour and benefits

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent.
• Knowledge of archival processing and metadata standards required.
• Experience with audiovisual materials and digitization workflows preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process, digitize, and describe audiovisual materials.
• Create and edit metadata records with established standards.
• Ingest files into digital archive and enhance discoverability through tagging and annotations.
• Perform quality control and document workflows and decisions.
• Collaborate with SSHMP staff on community-informed archival practices and public programming.
• Contribute to finding aids, digital exhibits, and interpretive essays.
