Job summary

Type One Energy in Knoxville, TN seeks an Engineering Physicist to support plasma diagnostics for machine protection, real-time control, and investigations on an advanced stellarator. You will help develop, deploy and operate diagnostic systems that enable research and commercial goals.

The role requires collaboration with other engineers and scientists, proficiency in Python/MATLAB, and a strong problem-solving mindset for experimental planning and analysis. A hybrid work policy is offered.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering Physics, Mechanical, Nuclear, Physics or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in designing, developing, and operating diagnostic systems for fusion or plasma experiments.
• Experience with data acquisition, analysis and interpretation using scientific software.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAE software and engineering workflows.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of fusion stellarator concepts is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support the design, construction and deployment of diagnostic systems.
• Support data analysis and modeling for plasma diagnostics.
• Contribute to experiments planning, execution and analysis.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering and science.
