Job summary

Independent Health in the Buffalo area is seeking a Billing Specialist to manage billing for pharmacy and medical claims and to adjudicate rejections. The role is hybrid—three days onsite and two remote after three months of onsite training—with shift variations and evening differential for later hours.

The position emphasizes accurate billing, payer communication, portal management, and coordination with Patient Care Specialists. Competitive hourly pay plus comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CPhT preferred.
• 1 year of high-volume pharmacy billing experience or 6 months in Reliance Rx Ops & Compliance.
• Experience with online claims processing systems preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with health-care professionals.

Responsibilities

• Billing of pharmacy and medical claims and managing rejections.
• Liaise between patients, insurers, doctors, and staff.
• Resolve payor billing issues and ensure CMS guidelines are followed.
• Confirm billing accuracy and payor requirements for shipments.
• Process deliveries to medical offices and handle patient registrations.
• Assist with portal management, refill reminders, and data entry.
• Support Patient Care Specialists with calls and documentation duties.
• Coordinate customer financial assistance programs when applicable.
• Follow standard procedures and obtain approvals for deviations.
