Job summary

The City of Fountain Valley is seeking a hybrid Permit Technician / Building Inspector to join the Community Development Department. You will work with homeowners, contractors, architects, and the public while inspecting construction in the field and at the counter.

You will review applications, issue routine permits, schedule inspections, and verify that work complies with approved plans and building codes. An ICC B1 certification or ability to obtain within 12 months is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in building inspection, construction or building trades.
• Experience with permit processing or permit technician work.
• Proficiency in reading plans and applying building codes.

Responsibilities

• Assist homeowners, contractors, architects and engineers with the permitting process.
• Review applications and construction plans for compliance with codes.
• Issue routine permits and schedule inspections in the field and at the counter.
• Perform basic inspections to verify compliance with approved plans.
• Document findings and communicate correction requirements to stakeholders.
