Job summary

Patient Funding Alternatives (PFA) is hiring a Patient Advocate Specialist to identify, educate, and enroll eligible hospital patients into the Health Insurance Premium Payment program. This hybrid role sits on-site at Mayo Clinic 2–3 days a week, acting as PFA's face inside partner hospitals.

Day-to-day resembles a sales-like outreach: you’ll work referrals, handle objections, and follow up multiple times to complete forms. A strong belief in the program’s impact on patients is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field preferred.
• 2+ years in patient-facing or customer-facing roles with measurable activity/outcomes.
• Comfort working independently on-site with limited supervision.
• Experience with CRM or case management systems and mobile devices (iPad/iPhone).
• Ability to pass hospital credentialing and screenings.

Responsibilities

• Identify and approach eligible patients and families from hospital referrals and daily census review.
• Explain HIPP clearly and compassionately, tailoring communication to each family.
• Work through hesitation and objections without pressuring anyone.
• Gather authorizations and documentation to move applications forward.
• Build trust with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Own caseload from first contact to enrollment.
