Job summary

Watts & Associates, a leading Am Law 100 national firm, seeks a mid-level Patent Prosecution Associate in Washington, DC. You will own patent drafting and prosecution across sophisticated portfolios, collaborating with partners, clients, inventors and technical experts on a national platform.

Ideal candidates bring 3+ years of experience in patent preparation/prosecution, strong EE or software tech background, and USPTO/DC bar admission, with a JD and degree in electrical/computer engineering or

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years patent prep and prosecution experience.
• Experience drafting patent applications in electrical engineering or software technologies.
• Admission to practice before the USPTO.
• J.D. and active DC bar admission.
• Undergraduate/advanced degree in EE, CE, SE, CS, physics or mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
• Manage patent portfolios involving EE and software technologies.
• Prepare responses to USPTO office actions.
• Conduct prior-art and patentability analysis.
• Advise clients on invention capture and patent strategy.
• Collaborate with inventors, in-house counsel and technical experts.
• Ensure timely filing and quality of patent applications.
• Increase ownership of client relationships and portfolio management.
